What's new in Kithcal
The visible product changes, in plain English, newest first. Read this if you've used Kithcal before and want to know what's different — or if you're new and curious what kind of shop this is.

- Sign in with Face ID. Settings → "Face ID / fast sign-in" → set up. After that, sign-in is one tap from your device (Face ID on iPhone, Touch ID on Mac, Windows Hello on PC, fingerprint on Android). The 6-digit email code still works anytime.
- Brand polish everywhere. New favicon, new Home Screen icon (the warm "K." with terracotta dot), browser status bar matches the app's cream palette, text-highlight color matches the brand. Tiny things that add up.
- Cleaner printing. If you ever print your week, it now prints clean — no nav, no shadows, high contrast.

- Beta operations layer. Self-hosted error tracking + per-event analytics + uptime monitoring + qualitative feedback log. Nothing user-facing — this is so we (or future contributors) can see what's working without paying a vendor.
- Holistic UX trims. Agenda now leads with your schedule, not the explainer. "How Kithcal works" auto-collapses after your first visit instead of every 7 days. The Gmail sign-in tip is now a friendly hint rather than a security warning.
- More UX polish. Bigger common-time chips on the new-event form (Apple HIG 44pt tap target). Sign-in error panel announces via screen reader on retry. Display-name change now refreshes everywhere it shows.

- Beta badge and clearer legal pages. Privacy and Terms now spell out children's data handling, CCPA acknowledgment, data security, retention, and beta status. The handwritten "beta" near the wordmark sets expectations honestly.

- Security fix: closed a real RLS hole on
members.calendar_id. A signed-in family member could have moved their row into another family's calendar and read their data. Fixed via migration 0025; the trigger now also blocks user_id and email changes for non-owners.

- New landing direction: the "family command center." Replaced the safe-editorial direction with a corkboard holding a sticky note + index card, in handwriting. The look you actually came to — not what every AI-built site looks like.
2026-05-21
- 6-digit code sign-in. No more PKCE errors. Cross-device works.
- Cross-device magic link via the new
/auth/confirmroute. - Warm "Text the link" invite as the primary share action.
- Editorial-warm redesign across landing and in-app surfaces (cream canvas, espresso ink, terracotta accent, Fraunces + Hanken Grotesk).
Before that — the M1–M5 milestones
The core product (multi-member family calendar, open slots + claiming, sign-ups, care notes, availability grids, instant + scheduled email notifications, iCal export, PWA install, recurring events, comments, running-late, member roles) shipped across milestones M1–M5 in May 2026. Earlier release detail lives in CLAUDE.md for anyone who wants the full archeology.
